The Boulder High Boys Lacrosse team is currently undefeated in their league and sitting in 3rd place as a result. As of April 6th, they have won 5 games, including in an exciting rivalry match up against Monarch High School.
In the game versus Monarch on March 25th at home, Boulder High was able to pull ahead during overtime. The two teams went into the half tied 4-4, and regular time finished with the score holding at 6-6. The game was sent into overtime where midfielder Pierce Dayton, ‘26, scored his second goal of the game, ending the game immediately with a win for the Panthers.
This year, the team has 26 players, with seniors making up more than half of the team. Of the 14 seniors, seven of them have been on varsity for four years. The team is incredibly experienced, which is one of the reasons they have found success this year.
The seniors themselves are also finding success. Individually, seniors lead the team in goal scoring, assists, and saves. This season, Artie Hoverstock, ‘26, leads in goals per game averaging 2.8 and has scored 25 goals this season, the most on the team. Behind him, Grady Allison, ‘26, has scored 17 and Dayton has scored 14. The team’s goalie Toby Benham, ‘26, has saved 107 shots so far this year. In terms of assists, Finn Mullen, ‘26, is leading the team averaging 1.2 per game and has 11 total this season.
Dayton describes this season as a “revenge” year for all of the seniors who have been on varsity for four years. He said that the past three seasons have been years of building with all their hard work culminating this year in their senior seasons. The seniors are working hard to energize the team to continue finding success this season.
This season being one filled with energy translates to the team’s culture off the field as well. Dayton “The team culture is really good. We are always competitive with each other but we still crack jokes and are friends. We keep each other really locked in.”
The lacrosse season will end on April 29th with a home game against Arvada West. After this year, the team will see a rebuilding year due to their 14 graduating seniors. Make sure to go and support the team before the season ends!
