If you have good taste and an adventurous palate, you might be interested in a local restaurant called The Ginger Pig. The Ginger Pig is a small restaurant on Pennsylvania and 13th with a very unique aesthetic and menu.
The building of The Ginger Pig is distinctive with its lack of seating and exterior appearance. The place is very small and has a pickup window on the south side of the building and holds a limited amount of room for multiple customers to be ordering.
The outside of the building is very eye-catching to passers-by with bright colors and decorative design. It features a giant mural of The Ginger Pig food truck in an alley on the side of the building. The mural shows the origin of the restaurant as it started as a food truck in 2016. It then became successful enough to later extend its reach out to building a restaurant in Denver in 2020.
Much of what makes this restaurant so special is the variety of food that can be found on the menu. The Ginger Pig has many different types of food to offer, ranging from rice bowls, soups, and noodles, to Asian-style hotdogs and sandwiches, the most interesting of which was their Gamja Hot Dog, which is a Korean-style corn dog.
With much to offer and rare items to choose from, there is little question about this place’s success. The place itself gives a new experience to Asian cuisine and has opened many people up to a variety of different items to broaden their palates.
The quality of the food is unquestionably exceptional bringing fresh ingredients and rich flavors to the table. Many items such as the Korean Fried Chicken and the House Banh Mi, a Vietnamese pork roll, held their ground in providing amazing flavor and a wonderful experience. All of the items we got were very enjoyable including the giant Banh Mi Hot Dog and other chicken bowls.
If you’re not a fan of spice or cilantro, the menu might be hard to navigate through because most dishes contain both. This limitation is partially redeemed by the fact that you can customize your order to not contain either of these things, but that was far from guaranteed in the food that we received.
This restaurant provided astounding food, but one thing to note is that it is not a budget restaurant. With the quality and flavor of the food is a hefty price attached to every meal. The food here would be considered more of an indulgence than practical food you would buy if you were hungry.
In all things considered, I would say that this restaurant is very good if you’re willing to go out of your way to spend a bit more on good food. The restaurant is cute and quaint with a distinct reputation. The food was extraordinary but I personally would not buy it if I had a choice due to the high price. I would give it a try if you want to experience some semi-exotic Asian cuisine and have enough money for the high-priced items.
