Boulder’s Annual Parade of Lights

On Dec. 7, the annual Parade of Lights took place on Pearl St. and Walnut. The event, which has occurred for over 30 years in Boulder, attracted family and friends alike.

The event provided an opportunity for businesses, non-profits and schools to show off their organizations and who they were in well-decorated, colorfully-lit floats. Several elementary schools, such as Crestview and Columbine, had kids tightly packed on floats, waving and throwing candy. The Manhattan Middle School Band was also featured, tooting their trumpets away to Christmas tunes. Many Girl and Boy Scouts troops also had their own floats. One troop even had their own go-kart floats, likely representing the derby cars that Boy Scouts are known for. In addition, several Boulder-based organizations came to represent themselves in the Parade, such as the Sons of Norway group, as well as an environmental group, comprised of kids protesting climate change.

BHS also had a presence in the parade. The BHS drumline performed, and the Art Car, hosted by students in National Art Honors Society, was driven in the parade. The Art Car has been an ongoing project for art students for the past few months, so it was probably rewarding to show off the completed car to many Boulder residents. Members of NAHS proudly marched behind the car.

The Parade of Lights is a cherished annual tradition in the Boulder Community, and it never fails to disappoint. This year, even the RTD bus made an appearance. It was heartwarming to see every highschoolers favorite mode of transportation being represented in the parade.

Although the weather is cold this time of year, attending the Boulder Parade of Lights is strongly recommended for anyone looking to get into the Christmas spirit. With the pace being picked up at school and finals approaching, it may be hard to otherwise take part in the holiday cheer. If you’re interested, make sure to attend next year’s Parade of Lights!
