The Owl

Billy Bingley

Billy Bingley, Writer

Billy’s a senior who’s deeply confused and can’t decide between wanting to do everything and literally nothing. When he’s not making salads at Cafe Blue, yelling at servers, and eating fries, he is busy sucking at guitar, watching video essays, and reading non-fiction. Please, bring him niche topics/Wikipedia rabbit holes to explore. He also enjoys adventures, fort construction, toad collection, swag, local bands, and conspiracy theories. Billy wants to be an independent journalist because of the creativity, authenticity, and social impact that it offers. Billy’s recently been eating obscene amounts of green grapes to overcompensate for his reputation of eating apples. He’s excited to express and explore his creative passions through The Owl this year.

Boulder is Performative

Billy Bingley February 18, 2026

Boulder is built on the “free love of the hippies,” but that history has been sold to corporate America. Like the thrift stores on Pearl that sell the activism of reuse, which, in practice, pervert...

Democracy is at the core of our nation's foundation. And yet, with only two real options, is choosing between the lesser of two evils fulfilling your enfranchisement?

Two Parties, Half a Democracy

Billy Bingley January 22, 2026

In the hellscape of modern American politics, it seems there’s only one political idea we all agree on: both choices suck, but the lesser of two evils is better than nothing. The issue of the two-party...

Dreams in the Scene: The Fox Theatre

Billy Bingley, Staff Writer October 29, 2025

If you live in Boulder, you’ve heard of The Fox Theatre. It's not just a music venue; it's a reflection of Boulder's culture. The Fox has been culturally influential in Boulder since its start in 1926,...

How to be Bored the Right Way

How to be Bored the Right Way

Billy Bingley, Staff Writer September 11, 2025

We live in a time when it's easy to be mildly entertained, which is very unfortunate because boredom is a very driving force. I don't like when people harp about meditating or not looking at your phone...
