This year, Boulder Panthers Athletics committed 15 athletes. Each of them is talented, hardworking, and dedicated to their chosen sport. Here’s a quick look at each of the athletes:
Elle Ceres
Elle Ceres will be playing soccer at Boston University. Coach Carlos Real says that he could tell Ceres was “different from the others” when she was little. Ceres has great soccer IQ and discipline, and has played 58 games at the varsity level while captaining her team. Her quiet confidence and experience will be key to her as she starts her career as a Terrier.
Margaret Chester
Margaret Chester will be swimming at Pomona College. Chester has only been swimming for five years, but no one watching her meets could tell. She’s been a mainstay for the Panthers in the pool over her four years. Chester will flourish as a Sagehen.
Pierce Dayton
Pierce Dayton will be playing lacrosse at Point Park University. Dayton is one of the most talented athletes in the school. He’s been a cornerstone of the lacrosse and basketball programs during his time at BHS, and he scored an astounding 25 goals in just 14 games so far this season. His ruthless tenacity and natural athleticism will be critical to his success as a Pioneer.
Kara Dougherty
Kara Dougherty will be playing soccer at Lewis and Clark College. Dougherty is a talented multi-sport athlete and a crucial member of the BHS girls basketball team. Teammates of Dougherty say that she simply doesn’t quit. Her perseverance and grit will help her to be a force as a River Otter.
Hazel Huilman
Hazel Huilman will be swimming at the University of Michigan. In her junior season, Huilman won the state championship in both the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke. Huilman is without a doubt one of the best swimmers in Boulder High history, and she’ll thrive as a Wolverine.
Tenley Layne
Tenley Layne will be playing field hockey at Hobart and William Smith College. She’s the first-ever Boulder High Field Hockey athlete to play at the next level, and the team couldn’t be prouder. Layne was named to the CHSAA First Team All-State team this past season, scoring 11 goals with 12 assists. Her love for the game will propel her to great things as a Heron.
Mikel Mackey
Mikel Mackey will be playing soccer for Pomona College. In his time as a Panther, Mackey has dominated on the pitch. His rare mix of tenacity and technical skill has led Boulder deep into the playoffs the past two years. Mackey will keep playing with joy and precision as a Sagehen.
Maks Matheson
Maks Matheson will be playing baseball at the University of Mary. As a freshman, Matheson was thrown straight onto Varsity to help out a struggling Panthers squad. He’s improved exponentially since then. He’s been a big reason for the baseball team’s success this year, not only as a player but as a leader, and he will only improve as a Marauder.
Hayden Neale
Hayden Neale will be playing soccer at Butler University. Neale rejoined “La Familia” this past season after spending the two previous seasons playing for a club team during the fall season. His only varsity season, however, was a memorable one. Neale scored 13 goals and assisted on 11 more, with countless memorable moments and fiery intensity. He was named the player of the year in the Rocky Mountain League and will use his nose for a goal quite often as a Bulldog.
James Quesenberry
James Quesenberry will be playing soccer at American University. Quesenberry is electric and dynamic on the field. This past season, Quesenberry was named CHSAA Honorable Mention All-State. Like Neale, he played club soccer as a junior, but rejoined the Panthers for his senior season. His versatility and energy helped the Panthers deep into the 5A playoffs, and will be instrumental for him as an Eagle.
Toby Schoenfeld
Toby Schoenfeld will be playing baseball at New York University. He has been on the varsity baseball team at Boulder High for four years, and as a left handed pitcher, has helped lead the team to an impressive 12-6 record this season. His unique position as a left handed athlete will serve him well as a Bobcat.
Zoe Silver
Zoe Silver will be playing soccer at Carleton College. She’s been on the varsity girls soccer squad since she was a freshman, and has excelled all four years. She’s scored 20 goals and racked up 12 assists for the Panthers over her career. She’s also a captain for the team. Her knack for goal scoring and strong leadership will serve her well as a Knight.
Lucas Wik
Lucas Wik will be running cross country at Colorado State University. This past winter, Wik was named to the CHSAA Second Team All-State cross country team and posted the third-fastest 5k time in Colorado. This is no small feat in the nation’s top state for running talent. Wik has been running his whole life and will continue to find success as a Ram.
Isaac Wing
Isaac Wing will be wrestling at Simon Fraser University. Wing is hard to miss in the ring. His larger-than-life personality and ferocity as a wrestler make him stand out from his competition. His work ethic has transformed him as a wrestler, and he’ll excel as a Red Leaf.
Toby Wong
Toby Wong will be running at Washington University. Wong didn’t enter high school as a great runner; in fact, Boulder Cross Country Coach Geo Tam says that he was the least talented in his class when he began high school. But Wong outworked everybody else. He’s now one of Boulder High’s best runners. His work ethic will lead him to even more gains as a Bear.
