Wyatt Stamm hasn’t had an easy road to success.
In his freshman year, Stamm was one of the stars of the JV basketball team. He meshed perfectly with his teammates and looked like a clear varsity player despite being just 14 years old. In his sophomore year, he was placed on varsity. He struggled.
He felt “overwhelmed by the change in physicality” at the varsity level. He scored only six points over 17 games before breaking his wrist at the end of the season. What was supposed to be a major season of club basketball for him turned into two months of rest because of his injury. Stamm says that he was “devastated” because he felt like he was just starting to make a lot of progress on the court.
To start his junior year, Stamm was ready to make a big impact for the Panthers. He started the season as a steady presence for Boulder, stringing together a few quality performances in a row. About halfway through the year, injury struck again. He landed on his elbow after attempting a dunk in practice, which left him out for six weeks. He lost all of his momentum for a second time. He was able to return for the last few games, but didn’t make that much of an impact. His real progress was yet to come.
With eight seniors graduated from the 2025 season, Stamm proved himself this past summer. He dominated in the summer league games, and was finally a star of the team. When the real season came around, Stamm got off to a slightly cold start to the year once again, scoring six and nine points in the Panthers first two games of the season. Then he broke out.
Against Highlands Ranch, Stamm scored 22 points, more than a third of the team’s total. He called this performance a “massive confidence boost” for him, and he hasn’t looked back since. The next game, he led Boulder to their first win of the season with another 20+ point game. Two games later against Prairie View, he put up 25 points, the most in his varsity career. Despite his individual accomplishment, he still left the gym upset. Stamm lamented, “I was disappointed we lost to a team I thought we were better than.” Over the next few games, Boulder continued to struggle as Stamm and fellow senior Lake Smith kept the games close.
The Panthers have finally found their form as Stamm has continued his stellar play. Boulder has won 4 out of their last 5 games, and Stamm has scored more than 15 points in 10 games this year. His progress has been remarkable. He came into the year with 32 career varsity points; he has amassed nearly 300 this season. He has 65 rebounds from the point guard position. He’s also on pace to break the Boulder High single-season steals record, only 11 shy with 4 games to go.
Stamm went from a timid underclassman struggling through injuries to dominating the Rocky Mountain League, and though he won’t be playing college basketball, the sky’s the limit for him.
