Cole Morrow, ‘25, is smashing his previous personal bests. Having played basketball since he was in 5th grade, Morrow has been setting and breaking personal bests for a long time. Last year, as a player on varsity, Morrow scored 381 points over the course of the season. After just nine games out of the 23 that will be played this season, Morrow has already scored an astonishing 179 points. Having only been on varsity for three years, Morrow has made impressive progress from his sophomore season, where he only totaled 81 points over the course of the season.
Averaging 19.9 points per game this season, he is on track to demolish last year’s 381 total points by around 100 points. This season, Morrow scored 31 points against Summit High School on December 9th, 2024, and he has topped 20 points in six out of nine games this season. Thanks to his impressive performance against Summit High School, Morrow was given the award of player of the game.
Morrow has big goals for this season. Although he says he wants to simply “Enjoy senior year and being the leader of the team,” he also wants to “Win our division and make it to playoffs,” something the team missed out on by a slim margin last year. On a personal level, Morrow wants to “personally get the all-time scoring record in a game.”
Morrow says he is “a primary leader.”As a leader on the team, Morrow works hard to create a close team environment. He says the team’s environment “is positive and uplifting,” and “we all get along really well.”
The positive team environment and close relationships the team has fostered led Morrow to share that his favorite part of BHS basketball is “competing with my teammates,” and his favorite memory is not one that occurred in a game but one that occurred with his teammates. He said,“ My favorite memory is when the team went to a lake house in Georgia and got to hang out and bond as a team.”
The benefits of the close-knit environment on the team are evident to spectators who see the team uplift and support one another throughout games, as well as players like Morrow, who have observed what closeness has done for the team. Morrow says, “We won last year because our team was very connected, and we all played for each other, not for ourselves.”
Morrow is a shooting guard on the BHS boy’s basketball team, a position he also plays on his club team, the Colorado Titans. Morrow plays for the highest team within his club, and that, combined with his role on varsity at Boulder High School, has given him a very full schedule. In order to balance his academics with his busy basketball schedule, Morrow says he makes sure to have “good time management” and he “puts school first.”
Despite Morrow’s extreme success in high school, he doesn’t plan to continue with basketball in college. While he loves the sport and has dedicated extreme amounts of time to it, he says, “I just don’t want to have basketball hold me back.” Morrow says his greatest accomplishment in basketball thus far was “making 2nd team all-conference last year and being MVP of the team.” As his career comes to an end through a season dedicated to setting new personal bests, Morrow is on a clear path to gaining even more impressive accomplishments throughout the rest of the season.
Make sure to keep an eye on Morrow this winter to see what else he manages to conquer in his farewell season.
