Get ready to tumble down the rabbit hole with the 2024 Haunted House featuring iconic characters from the books and the Disney movie, such as the creepy Caterpillar, the malicious Mad Hatter, and our petrifying protagonist, Alice. This year, the directors crafted a haunting story to accompany the horrors:
Directors Natalie Gettelman, ‘25, Gwen DuVernay, ‘25, and Sawana Tilton, ‘25, are directing a mind-bending take on Alice in Wonderland: Malice in Wonderland.
Everyone knows the classic tale of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. A curious Alice follows a peculiar White Rabbit down his rabbit hole and proceeds to meet a series of unique characters as she travels through forests, oceans, and palaces. But in our story, Alice doesn’t make it out and home safe like she’s supposed to…leaving her sister and the real world behind forever.
Halloween is the one night a year when people can dress up as their favorite characters, eat as much candy as they want, and haunt their neighborhoods with ghoulish intent. This sentiment is held within Troupe 60, with everyone working hard, curating a spine-chilling event where the community of Boulder High bands together to celebrate all things spooky. Over two weekends in October, people within the community visit the Haunted House, from middle schoolers to teachers to school neighbors to CU students.
Building the haunted house every year is a challenging feat. Because of the schedule of the Black Box plays, Troupe 60 has two weeks to put together the haunted delights that we know and love. According to one of the props heads, when asked about the turnaround from Black Box to Haunted House Mawce Glancy ‘25, “It’s definitely stressful, but…we just start the Haunted House earlier, which makes the timeline go a lot smoother. Almost all the crews are starting Haunted House right now [early September].” They also said you should go to Haunted House this year “because the theme is really cool, and we[the crews]’re all putting a lot of work into it.”
Come to Boulder High’s world-famous haunted house for a spooky, thrilling, and fun experience. You can purchase tickets on GoFan ahead of time, or you can bring cash and pay at the door. Tickets are $8 for students and $15 for adults. If you’re afraid of running out of the house from fright (or just want a look behind the scenes), there is a lights-on experience from 6:00 – 6:50 on October 19th. See your childhood characters and tales with a horrifying twist from 7-10 pm on October 18th, 19th, 25th, and 26th at Troupe 60’s Haunted House, where we’re all mad here.
