The boy’s tennis team (along with all of the other fall sports that are not football), has sadly not been given as much attention as it deserves. But I’m here to amend that. For those who don’t understand how tennis works; there are four doubles teams and three singles players on varsity. At the beginning of the season, people play against each other to figure out the lineup. They also have several JV teams playing doubles. You can go to state for any position when on varsity, depending on how you do in the regional tournament.
This year’s lineup is: 1 singles – Andre Parham, ‘25, 2 singles – Jackson Lewis, ‘24, 3 singles – Agi Willis, ‘24, 1 doubles – Blake Curl, ‘25, and Patrick Harvey, ‘26, 2 doubles – Henry Radoff, ‘24, and Leo Damrauer, ‘24, 3 doubles – Jude Ropp, ‘24, and Ian Everson, ‘25, 4 doubles – Bruno Damrauer, ‘26, and Nick Watson, ‘24. The season started on August 21st and ended on October 14th. The team competes in matches and tournaments practically every week.
When interviewed regarding his favorite moment of the season, Willis expressed how proud he was of his friend Jackson Lewis for getting 5th place in the state. Parham, the second athlete interviewed, responded that his favorite moment was “competing with some of the best kids in the state at the conference tournament and also playing pickup football games with the team between matches.”
This season the team underwent some changes, the main one, Andre told me is that they have a new head coach: “Head Coach Ryan Berman is a former Boulder High singles tennis player and is a tennis coach at Rich’s Tennis School. He has also coached high school tennis for Monarch.”
Though it’s an “individual sport” the friendships one can make in high school sports in general are really special. All around, tennis is an awesome sport. It might not be as publicized as the football team, but these athletes deserve some recognition for their accomplishments this season!
