The first athlete of the month for the 2023-2024 school year was announced through the Panther post sent out on 9-11-23. Sophia Pereira 25’ received the honor of August Boulder High School athlete of the month thanks to her contribution to the Panthers girls softball team as a standout player and teammate.
Sophia has played softball since second grade and currently plays pitcher, short stop, third base, and center field. Boulder High girls softball is currently 9-1 in their league games, making them first in their league. The girls softball team had a six-game win streak winning their games over Aurora Central, Adams City, Thornton, Monarch, Aurora Central, and Skyview high schools. After a one-point loss to Thornton on the 21st of September they began a new win streak of 4.
Sophia is looking to play softball in college but at the moment is enjoying the energy and fun of the Boulder High School team. She said she loves the “team spirit, high energy, and the fun” of the team. She also said she loves “her relationships with her current teammates and the strong community they have built together”.
So far this season, Sophia Pereira has been a standout player for the Panther softball team hitting nine home runs and striking out 53 players as a pitcher during the 2023 season. She hopes to finish out the season strong as an individual player and also continue to be a valuable asset to the Panther softball team as a whole. The weekend of October 7th the team finished out their season in a tournament where big wins over Thorton High School and Adams City High School, allowed the panther softball team to be able to call themselves league champions for the second year in a row! They will close the 2023 season with a 14-9 record and in league they will finish with a 11-1 record putting them in 1st place.
