It’s 11:20 in the morning and the 4th-period lunch crowd has one thing on their minds: food. The budget is tight, as the part-time job isn’t yielding as much money as I previously thought. The lunch period isn’t long, so one needs a quick, plentiful, and cheap meal to get through the remainder of the afternoon. Most quick joints are boring and over-priced, so we’re down to two sandwich places: Deli Zone and Potbelly.
I’m going to try both sandwich shops and review them, so the next time you’re in this kind of a pinch, you can, without a doubt, make the right call on where to take your business.
Deli Zone definitely takes the crown for price. A two-egg baby kong, which is composed of two eggs, hash browns, American cheese, and sausage on a hot roll, will only run you about $6.75, and the sandwich will certainly leave you with a full stomach. On the other hand, A medium turkey from Potbelly is about $10; the Potbelly sandwich is slightly bigger, but not enough to warrant a $3 price increase. In addition, Deli Zone is a local shop with only a few locations in Broomfield, Boulder, Longmont, and one in Denver. Conversely, Potbelly is a national chain that’s in all states except for New Jersey, Georgia, and California. So if you like supporting local businesses, Deli Zone is a great option.
In terms of time, Potbelly is ordinarily quicker. During lunch, the 29th street Potbelly rarely has a line, and once you order, you’ll be eating in about four to five minutes. The bread, meat, and or cheese are first put through a rotating toaster, and then the toppings of your choice are placed on there. Deli Zone’s swiftness is largely dependant on location; the location on the hill can take upwards of 25 minutes to get your food because there’s often a heavy presence of college students, and while the location on Valmont and 30th is a lot quicker, it isn’t all that close to BHS and it takes about 12 minutes to get from that location to BHS by car. So if you’re looking for a reliably quick option, Potbelly is the one.
Finally, which one tastes better? I haven’t tried them all, but I do know that both joints put out quality sandwiches across the board. If you’re between the one’s I referenced above (a medium turkey from Potbelly or a 2 egg baby kong form Deli Zone), it really comes down to what you’re in the mood for; The kong is better if you’re in the mood for a breakfast sandwich, while the Potbelly one is your classic sub. Because 4th lunchers get out before noon, I recommend the breakfast-style Deli Zone ‘wich, but for the 5th lunchers, the classic Turkey sandwich from Potbelly may be the way to go.
In the end, both of these places are great options for quick, cost-efficient, and most importantly, good tasting food. In my opinion, I think the Potbelly sandwich is the best one to turn to for lunch, but you really can’t go wrong.
