Celebration and Cheer, Boulderites in Photos
On Saturday, November 7th, Joe Biden was declared the next president of the United States. There was a lot at stake in this election. In the past four years, the Trump administration has worked towards overturning Roe v. Wade and the Affordable Care Act, leaving millions of Americans uninsured and fearful of losing their right to choose. The Trump administration has also proven itself to be increasingly homophobic and anti-LGBTQ. After the announcement of the Biden/Harris win, supporters across the nation rushed to the streets to celebrate, breathing a collective four-year exhale. Boulder citizens were no different.
Amidst the usual bustle of Pearl Street Mall, citizens rushed into the intersection at Pearl and Broadway clapping, dancing and cheering.
When the stoplights turned green, Boulderites retreated to celebrate from the curbs. Cars drove past honking, waving and even holding up their own signs.
Supporters literally jumped for joy as they celebrated the victory of a more accepting and more inclusive president.
Some excited Boulderites cheered next to a life-size cutout of Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris. Harris is the first bi-racial and female to be elected to the position.
One passionate Boulderite held up a sign comparing President Trump to Benito Mussolini, the Italian dictator. Flying next to it was an American flag, a symbol many left-leaning Americans have felt ashamed of for the past four years, once again something to be proud of.
Many of the celebrators carried pride flags or Biden/Harris posters, however, the most common thing they carried? The sentiment that this is in fact the “Best Day Ever.”
The joyous occasion was made significantly better by being able to celebrate (socially distanced) with one another. Editor-in-Chief, Akasha Brahmbhatt, and I were so happy we were able to be a part of this momentous occasion.
