Welcome back to school, Panthers! Hopefully, this summer was spent with your closest friends outdoors in the blazing sun, listening to music, relaxing, and enjoying your time away from the stress of the school year.
Picture this: a perfect 85-degree summer day spent with your closest friends, passing the summer by sitting outdoors. Not trying to speak for everybody, but from my own experience, every summer I have had one song that I feel defines the aesthetic and vibe of the year. For example, “Tumblr Girls” in 2015, or “Lady Killers II” from last year, or “slide” in 2023, and so on and so forth. These songs are commonly shared through social media and other forms of communication. To this day, whenever any of these songs play, I am immediately teleported back to a year and am reminded of the trends, activities, and feelings that I associate not just with that summer but also with the song. Similar to last year, as we enter the school year, I am curious what song BHS students feel defined their summers.
With the idea of a “song of the summer” in mind, I decided to determine a consensus on the opinions of Boulder High students as to what they feel defined their summer 2025. Whether this was in relation to trends on social media, if it was a joke amongst you and your friends, or if it simply fit the vibe of this summer, each student that I interviewed had at least one song that they claimed to be their song of the summer.
Interviewing Boulder High School students, I learned that, similarly to last year, there was not one single tune that defined all of our summers. Although some people repeated the same song, there were no songs that had more than three votes for the song of the summer.
The songs that different people chose as their song of their summer really spoke to their individuality and the ways in which they chose to express themselves this summer. Through the diversity of songs, we can look deeper into the commonalities and differences that we share with our peers.
As there was once again no “song of the summer”, I decided to put together a playlist for Boulder High School’s songs of the summer of ‘25. If you, too, are interested in hearing what your fellow Panthers listened to this summer, feel free to scan the QR code for a link to the playlist that contains every summer vibe you can think of, and get transported back into the summer. Although we can’t go back in time, the music of this summer will allow us to imagine our freedom while sitting in a classroom. Happy fall, Panthers!
