Boys Soccer 7-0 playoff win November 10, 2024
On a blustery 34-degree evening, the 16-0 Boulder Panthers boys soccer team faced the Fort Collins Lambkins in the state quarterfinals. Boulder was riding high after two playoff wins against Fountain-Fort Carson and Horizon, trouncing them 10-0 in total. The Lambkins, undefeated since September 13th, posed more of a challenge. But ‘La Familia’ continued right where they left off. With 17 minutes left in the first half, Joss Hair, ‘25, scored the first goal of the game. Shortly after, Hair scored again. David Bojorquez, ‘25, and Connor Sims, ‘25, followed suit, each scoring before the half. When all was said and done, the scoreboard at All-City Stadium read 7-0. The Lambkins were shocked, having only allowed seven goals in their last 13 matches combined. At the end of their thrilling season, the team had outscored opponents 97-6 and held rankings of #1 in the state and #11 in the country.
Asher Baruch Last Second Field Goal for Football
With 10 minutes left in regulation, Boulder football was down 14-0 to Northglenn. The Panthers had won their last three games, but it seemed like it would be hard to salvage anything from this game. Then, all of a sudden, Boulder turned it around. They scored twice in quick succession, tying up the game. As time expired, the Norse had a chance to win the game with a short field goal attempt. The Panthers blocked it. Well into overtime, the Norse had another short field goal attempt. Boulder blocked it again. The Panthers now had a chance to do what Northglenn couldn’t. With a few seconds left in overtime, it was all up to kicker Asher Baruch ‘25. Baruch lined up to take a 34-yard field goal and kicked it off. The kick didn’t look promising, and another overtime seemed to be in store. The ball then ricocheted off the crossbar and went in. The Panthers had snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. This win against Northglenn helped secure the Panthers’ record as the best in the last few years.

Boys Basketball Success
Coming into the 2025 season, Boulder High’s boys basketball team boasted an impressive roster. With five returning varsity players, the team was off and running from the first day of the season. Of those five players, Cole Morrow,’25, and Lake Smith, ‘26, had big successes last season that gave the Panther community high hopes around their and the team’s performances this season. They fulfilled those hopes, both the team, Morrow, and Smith having impressive seasons. The team won their league for the first time since 2016. This almost 10-year league win drought came to an end, largely thanks to Smith and Morrow’s hard work on the Court. Morrow completed the landmark achievement of 1000 career points at Boulder High, and Smith had a last-second buzzer-beater to win a crucial league game. The buzzer-beater came against Mountain Range, which at the time of the February 6th game was undefeated in league play. The win of this game by a small two-point margin secured Boulder’s first-place spot in the league, forcing Mountain Range to place second.
Megan Matthews Career and Single Game Scoring Record
Megan Matthews,‘25, entered February 20th, 2025, with exactly 800 career points. Matthews, a dominant force for the Girls’ Basketball team, was coming off a bit of a scoring slump, putting up only 12 points in her previous two games. She hoped to make a bigger impact in the Panthers’ penultimate game of the year. And she certainly did. Matthews went 13-26 from the field, with eight rebounds and six steals. Her stellar effort broke the Boulder High Girls Basketball single-game scoring record and career points record. Her 35-point effort was the highlight of an impressive 85-26 victory over Prairie View.
Luca Molina Clinching a Win for Wrestling on Senior Night
Tensions were high on January 29, 2025. Not only was it Senior Night for the Boulder High wrestling team, but it was also the rivalry dual against Fairview. The matchup was intense and close the whole night. Boulder won the first three duals of the night, then Fairview clapped back with three wins of their own. The last duel of the night was nothing short of electric. 215-pound Luca Molina ‘25 entered the ring invigorated. He says, “I walked up to the table energized and ready to go, I kept feeling more and more adrenaline the closer I got to the middle of the mat….the second the referee blew the whistle everything just left me, thoughts, emotions, the past, and the loud cheers of the audience, the only thing that stayed was the sheer feeling of instinct….” (From Kirsten Boyer). The match was over within seconds. Molina, who shortly after hoisted the Lynn Daker trophy high over his head, had clinched a 40-31 over the Knights on the last duel of the regular season.
Hazel Huilman Swim State Performance.
Hazel Huilman was not the favorite going into the 5A state swimming meet. She entered the meet with the eighth-best and second-best times in the classification for her respective races. She won both, topping the podium twice that night, and committed to the University of Michigan shortly after to swim collegiately. Huilman’s win, the highlight of the Girls’ Swim season, was undoubtedly one of the best sports moments of the year.
Girls Soccer Wins Against Top Team in the State
On April 8th, two undefeated girls’ soccer teams were set to face each other at Boulder High’s very own Christian Recht Field. Boulder High came into the game with a 5-0-2 record, and Castle View, at the time the top team in the state, had a record of 6-0-1. Boulder High had faced tough competition in the season already, but the game against the Sabercats was looking to be their most challenging yet. As the first whistle blew, both teams quickly proved themselves to be fierce, and the game was looking evenly matched. After a scoreless first half, Mia DeJohn, ‘25, scored Boulder High’s first goal in the 64th minute. Quickly after, Kiri Fogarty-Sears, ‘28, doubled the score in the 69th minute. Castle View continued to make the Panthers work and had many chances to score, one of which ended up in a goal. The final whistle blew, closing out the exciting game with the score 2-1 in Boulder High’s favor. Boulder High had completed its biggest win so far, cementing the 2025 team as having the strongest start the Women’s soccer program had ever seen. Along with this honor, the win moved Boulder High’s state ranking to #1, an incredible feat.
Boys Lacrosse Wins Over Heritage
April 9, 2025, was a special night for the Boulder Boys Lacrosse team. After losing in an 8-7 heartbreaker to Heritage last year, the Panthers were hungry for revenge against the Eagles this season. Heritage, ranked number 15 in the state, came into the game with a 7-1 record. With 3:40 left in the game, the Panthers were down by 3. Luke Nathan ‘25 scored his 100th career goal to cut the lead to 2. Before long, Boulder had tied it up, including another goal from Nathan. The game went to overtime. The Eagles were dominant through most of overtime, but then the Panthers got the ball, with a wide-open field ahead. Artie Hoverstock,’26, took the ball, shot, scored, and secured the win.
Finn Torvik Baseball Walk-Off
The boys’ Baseball team showed grit throughout their close April 22nd game against Brighton. The Panthers were up 1-0 deep into the game, thanks to great pitching by Connor Bagnall ‘27. Brighton tied the game up in the 6th inning. Then the Bulldogs took a 3-1 lead in the top of the last inning. Things were looking bleak for the Panthers, but that didn’t stop them. The Brighton defense started crumbling. Down 3-2, Finn Torvik ‘27 stepped up to the plate with runners on first and second. Torvik hit a long fly ball that clanged up against the fence, and Maks Matheson ‘26 and Gavin Nguyen ‘25 raced around the bases to score the tying and winning runs. The Panthers dugout emptied and huddled around Torvik, whose walkoff led to a huge comeback win.
